The other day, I watched my two boys drag a rope into the garden and spend the better part of the afternoon turning it into a swing, a trap and finally using to secure their fort of blankets and chairs. No screens, no instructions, no fuss—just imagination and laughter echoing through the yard.
It reminded me of something simple but powerful: children don’t need expensive gadgets to have an adventure. They need space, a spark of creativity, and us—their parents—cheering them on.

Why Outdoors Matters
When kids play outside, it’s not just about burning off energy. They’re building resilience, problem-solving skills, and confidence. They learn to work with what’s around them, whether that’s turning sticks into game pieces or making a ramp for their bicycles out of an old plank.
Even more importantly, these shared moments become the memories they’ll hold onto. I often tell parents that the “activity” isn’t the real win—it’s the laughter, the teamwork, and the gratitude that grows when we spend these fun times together.
A Gift for Families Who Want to Begin
Over the years, I’ve collected and created simple, low-cost outdoor activity ideas that I’ve used both with my own boys and with the many children I’ve worked with as a coach, teacher, and mentor. I’ve gathered five of my favorite activities into a free downloadable booklet for families who want to step outside and try something new.
They’re easy to set up, fun for all ages, and—best of all—they focus less on competition and more on connection.

Closing Thought
My encouragement is this: don’t overcomplicate outdoor time. Sometimes the simplest games—a rope in a tree, a chalk grid on the driveway, or a bucket of water and a sponge—become the biggest adventures.
So this week, why not choose one small outdoor activity with your children? Put the phone away, step into the sunshine, and watch the joy unfold.
And if you’d like some ideas to get you started, I’d love to share my free booklet with you. Who knows—those little moments could become your family’s favorite memories.
